Fig Mosaic Virus or Fig Mites?! damn mites...
figs rulz
how 'bout neem oil? would it work?
Thank you Ross, I have the same characteristics on my fig tree. I thought it was a nitrogen deficiency. Now I know what's wrong with it thanks I'll apply neem oil for the next 3 weeks.
I will check our Figs trees now. However, I will only purchase Tropical Fruit trees from a well known nursery and only one that I TRUST. (Shamus O'Leary's Tropical Fruit Trees, Phoenix, AZ).JJ
I had the same problem this year with al my new boughted 16 young fig plants. After I bought them I wanted to give them the best (so I thought ) and put them in richly fertilized, "fertilized garden-soil" (in Dutch "bemeste tuinaarde") and added extra chalk to the soil. I gave the plants regularly water. After some weeks they begun to look sick and showed the same discolorations as in the video. One plant dropped even fruit and leaves, dryed out and dyed. I read somewhere on the internet that figs dont need fertilizer and don't like too many water and decided to change the soil to simple "pot-soil" for indoor plants (in Dutch "potgrond") wich drains very well. I also did not give them fertilizer or chalk anymore.14 plants became all healty again. All the new grown leaves on the plants dont show the spots and discolorations anymore. There is however one tree I dont kep in containers but js planted in the ground. This tree shows the same discolored leaves. I think its because there is to much water i my garden ground. I live near a river and when you dig a hole of 50cm you see ground-water coming up.
That is very sad , has their been any update?
You can order a Jewelers loop off ebay and check for mites pretty easy. Also look at the nodes. They like to build webs there where the leaf forms. Agricultural mineral oil will also get rid of mites. Similar to neem oil. Need to coat everything with the oil and it suffocates them and stops the eggs from hatching.
How to get rid of mealy bugs?it affected my figs tree badly. I removed and kill it one by one but it keep coming back
Thanks Ross, I just started growing figs in containers and am closely watching for mites and FMV.
You may also have alternaria rot. That would explains the pitting in the fruit and the leaves.
